Designed for the 6th district' council "the smart info-infokiosks" is new to the whole Eastern Europe. A novelty was also the welcomed initiative of the Romanian state to call for the development of this project to a team with extensive experience in usability and user experience. On this occasion, GreenPixel proves again that may convey online rules to offline environment.
The goals that we intend to achieve by making these info-kiosks were:
- disseminating information from the 6th district's council (decisions, initiatives, various news, etc..) to citizens
- providing an useful and easy to use tool for citizens, for information, guidance around 6th district and identify locations of interest
- create a two-way communication between the 6th district's council and citizen
Although "the smart info-kiosks" is not GreenPixel's first development project of such platforms, target audiences and their needs vary greatly from case to case, the same as the situations in which we find ourselves, as agency. Therefore, achieving "the smart info-kiosks" was a challenge for us, requiring a lot of working and thinking time and great dedication.
To achieve a properly functioning application, intuitive and above all user-friendly we combined different technologies and programming languages, including:
- Java
- ActionScript3
- Adobe AIR
- PHP
Info-kiosks are equipped with POS, Scanner, Printer. Thus, by simply placing the ID card into the info-kiosk one can be identified and is allowed to access information, and by introducing the secure bank card payments are made to the local budget.
Functions such as connection to the POS, identity card scanner, print, User Generated Content possibility, search are only some of the customization options that can be generally integrated with an application for info-kiosks. The application for info-kiosks is flexible and can be customized and enhanced with: wizards, configuration, integration with portals, authentication, automatic cash receivable, mechanisms for in-store promotion, etc..
Info-kiosks are connected to each other, the information submitted and the user-generated content is available in real time from all the connected points. Between the main features of the info-kiosks and of the its elements that turn them into an innovative, useful and enjoyable tool and we include:
- touch screen
- real time data replication
- secure connections and information
- anti-vandal design
- thermal printer incorporated
- fully functional payment system (POS, GPRS router, switch)
The good and the bad, hard work, lost nights, problems, obstacles but also support we're proud to have the signature on a smart, innovative application, an integrated system, scalable by levels of functionality, intuitive and easy to use. We believe that such a system, that ensures a pleasant user experience, which adds value in the offline environment, will be greeted with enthusiasm by its users.
