Gifttreez - social experience on Facebook

Giftreez, application that is integrated and visible on Facebook.com is the first project in which we and our network of Facebook friends were customers. Conceived to facilitate the exchange of symbolic gifts and specific wishes for holidays, Giftreez proposes a new experience for Facebook users, but also an experiment for GreenPixel team within this social network, in order to further develop as many applications for online communities and social media sites.

Giftreez allows to choose the form and type of tree, sending gifts and messages to friends, decorate their own tree with the gifts received, tracking the flow of gifts and messages that are changing within the network of friends, purchase of ornaments with points accumulated by sending gifts, vote the most beautiful decorated trees in the group of friends.

Goals which we have set for this application:

• to strengthen our expertise on building and integrating applications on Facebook.com
• to check the possibilities for expansion of an application on Facebook
• to test the possibilities of achieving communication campaigns in the framework Facebook
• to remind us all of the joy of giving and receiving gifts.

To achieve Giftreez, we began by documenting the best and quickest way to develop the application and its integration within Facebook.com, Gifttreez being the first project in GreenPixel's portfolio dedicated to this social network. And because attempts to build the application based on Flash and AJAX failed, and because Facebook has its own programming language, we turned to a solution that we used successfully in other projects: AMFPhp.
